Developing guidelines: writing about medicine information for people
Editor's note: The book of guidelines—Writing about medicine for people—has been hugely successful. Many people use it, and it has had a significant impact on the quality of medicines information, particularly in Australia where it has become the de-facto standard for the pharmaceutical industry. But the success, as this paper shows, is no accident. It is the result of rigorous research and development which took sensitive account of the Australian context.
We republish this paper now (2005) to make it available to our colleagues in the USA, Canada, UK, and the EU who are embarking on similar initiatives. We hope they find our experience useful.
